Iraq issues arrest warrant for Trump over killing of Iran general Soleimani

Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council has issued an arrest warrant for #UnitedStates President Donald Trump for the killing of IRCG General Qasem Soleimani and PMU leader Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis during an airstrike last year. The Council said the warrant “has been issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 406 of the Iraqi Penal Code” and that further investigations will be held “to identify others who participated in committing this crime, whether they are Iraqis or foreigners.” This comes two days after Iran submitted an international arrest warrant to Interpol for the President. While more symbolic than practical, the warrants show the deepening rift between Washington and the governments of Iraq and Iran.
